Should I buy the Fitness Master X Series Momentum Indoor Cycling Bike?

Excellent Spinner!

I've never owned, or even used, an exercise bike of this type, so I don't really have anything to compare it to quality wise. I wanted a bike and it was suggested to me that the spinner was the way to go, so I decided to try one. I will say this....it's extremely easy to adjust for just about any size person. The seat adjusts forward or back, up or down, and the handle bar adjusts as well. I did change out the seat because the one that came on the bike is just not comfortable for me. The bike is heavy, so there isn't any rocking or wobbling while riding regardless of how fast you ride. I've had to reposition it a couple of times, and the wheels on the front make that pretty easy as long as it's a straight shot. I don't think I could move it a long way, around corners and such, by myself. To keep up with distance, calories burned, heart rate and time just wear a heart rate monitor. No need to buy the kind that attaches to the bike, because then you couldn't use it for other types of exercise. The fact that this bike isn't electric, and doesn't have the monitor on the front is a plus....don't have to worry about power outages/surges or the electronics going on the blink. I've always gone by the rule that the more electronics involved, the more problems later! I purchased a couple of DVD's to follow, and have really enjoyed using this bike all the more because of them. Quality wise, I'd have to say this is definitly a great bike, and I don't think I could have done better for the money.

Excellent Product

I have had this item for just a few weeks, and surprisingly as I went to write this I see the price has jumped considerably from the $585 w/free shipping that I paid in October - what's the deal with that? Just had to mention that, I'm really surprised to see such a jump in price.

The bike arrived via ABF freight, they called ahead and were very easy to deal with, helped me get the bike into the garage. That evening I assembled it. The hardest part was getting the thing out of the box, doing this with a helper would have been easier. There were no hard steps, though the hardware changed slightly from the included instructions, it was all self-explanatory. One note, there is nothing that comes other than an assembly and parts manual and a registration card - no CD/DVD, no instructions on care/maintenance, or anything else, a bit surprising for a large purchase.

I have never had a spin bike before, but I did have a Schwinn magnetic resistance recumbent bike. I used the Schwinn for about a year, then the computer went on the fritz. For the next two years I have done without a bike, relying in a Total Trainer DLX III home gym, which I bought directly from the manufacturer (Bayou Fitness) and this item is also available from Amazon, I will probably write a review for it too, it's really a fantastic home gym.

I wanted something that would not break down like the Schwinn - nothing to plug in, no computer, nada. After researching spin bikes for about a week I finally chose this one, price and reviews seemed very good. I'm very happy with my selection.

This is a very stable, heavy piece of equipment, which is a good thing. I'm impressed by the fact that I can really stand up and ride this hard with no fear of it tipping, sliding, moving. I currently mass about 185, and it easily seems like it could take even a much heavier or taller rider.

Adjusting the seats and handlebars would be my only thing to comment about negatively. They adjust perfectly for me, but there could be others that might have a small issue. The way that the adjustable screw handle/lever works, it can be interfered with if the seat or bars are too close to the structural members of the bike. The should have used a lever that slides through so it could be turned, slid, and turned again. Maybe they will read this and change the design, but I'm sure that's not very likely.

I really like the design of the handlebars, the pedals grip well with their straps, the hand brake works if you need it, and overall the bike also has a very pleasing look - you can see a couple of photos of mine in the review.

I cannot compare this with another spin bike since I never have ridden one, but I cannot imagine why spending $1,000 or more would get you anything better. The flywheel is heavy and well balanced, it rides smoothly and quietly, and the protection over the belt if fantastic.

Overall 4 1/2 to 5 stars, a really super purchase.

Excellent, sturdy bike for the money!

I purchased this bike for $599 with free shipping (price jumped to over $700 after Christmas!). It was due to arrive on Dec. 29th, but arrived on Dec. 22nd! ABF had their act together if they can get something delivered a week early in the middle of the holiday season. Extremely pleased with the shipping/delivery part of the transaction.

The bike itself is STURDY and well put together. I test rode a Johnny G Spinner Sport at a local bike shop (they wanted $500 for that) and was *very* disappointed. It was noisy and wobbly and seemed very cheap. I normally use a Schwinn spinner at the gym (cost = $1,000+) and this bike is actually BETTER than what I've been using. I have a CycleOps bike trainer I've also used at home that wobbled and never felt really sturdy enough for me to give it my all...I am so glad I bought this spin bike!

PROS:
It took my husband about 30 minutes to assemble it and tighten everything up. The tension adjustment is responsive, the bike is quiet, the seat and handlebar adjustments are easy to make. I love the handlebars...lots of different ways to grip it for comfort and I can sit a magazine or book on it to read if I want. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my cycling shoes clip into the pedals on one side, and there are toe cages on the other side. It also came with what looks like another set of clips for the pedals...maybe for a different type of shoe? As far as the weight and being able to move it around, this bike is heavy, but I'm a petite 5' nothing and have no trouble pushing the bike around when I need to move it. I'm pleased with its heft because I can ride at a high cadence or stand and pedal hard and this thing doesn't wobble at all.

CONS:
Yes, the seat is uncomfortable. I ride a road bike in the summer and that tiny seat is more comfy than this one. Sure, you might be able to get used to this seat, but I put a gel seat cover on right away and improved the comfort level. I'm considering getting a different seat for the spin bike, but for now the gel cover works fine. A few times I've accidentally bumped the lever for the brake (which sticks out from the tension knob). No biggie, just a tad annoying. And, I'd prefer a water bottle cage in an easier to reach spot (maybe off the handebars?), but again, no biggie. These are all minor cons when compared with what you get for the money! One thing that took me a little time to get used to is the spacing between the pedals. With my road bike and the Schwinn spin bike, I'm used to riding with my legs closer together (in other words, less space between my feet). I think the crankshaft might be a bit longer on this bike to accomodate the guard that covers the drive belt. I've gotten used to it now, but at first it felt a little odd.

Overall...a great spin bike for the money with many of the features that come on higher priced bikes.

Love this thing!

Very satisfied with my purchase! Bike arrived one day early and only took 30 minutes tops for my husband to assemble. This bike is true quality, and comparable to the LeMond I am used to riding at the club. It is sturdy, silent, and all it should be for the avid spinner. I admit it is weird coming up with my own routine with my own music, but I think I will get better as I use it more and compile a proper playlist to listen to! Now my mom wants one and I am so excited that my jeans are getting back to clinging in the right spots instead of pulling in the wrong ones! Overall an excellent price, free shipping was awesome with Prime membership, and who would of thought the darn thing would actually show up on time? Love it! Thanks Fitness master and Amazon.

Unbelievable Spin Bike Value!!

My title pretty much sums it up, but let me dig into a few more details for you dear reader.

This spin bike is everything I was looking for. It is the equivalent of the spin bikes at the gym I used to be a member of. Those were Lemond bikes, though not the latest models, but still very nice ones - and very pricey!

I'm 6'1" with a long torso and this bike has all of the adjustments that I need. I was looking at the less expensive spin bikes here on Amazon, but the one thing they lacked was the ability to adjust the handlebars fore/aft. That was an option I wasn't willing to do without, so I reluctantly paid more. I wasn't sure if the bike would be up to par and there were no dealers nearby that I could try before buying. Knowing Amazon has an excellent return policy, I took a chance on this one after much online research and comparison.

The belt drive is smooth and quiet! The seat is comfortable to me, but I'm a former road racer. It's a personal item and can easily be changed out for another seat since it uses a standard mount. Also, the pedals are standard bike pedals, so they can be changed out to whatever you prefer. The ones that came with it have clips/straps on one side if you don't have or care to use cleated shoes. The other side are SPD cleat ready and the cleats are included! You will need shoes that can accommodate SPD cleats if you decide to use them and there are several models and styles to choose from here on Amazon or your preferred bike accessory dealer.

The handlebars are quite nice with multiple styles for different riding positions. Time trial, Triathlon, etc. You can also hold on to the top bar as you would find on a traditional bike. It is only missing the drop style (road bike). They are covered with a foam padding which is sufficient. I also wear padded cycling gloves and am comfortable, though I may wrap the bars with an even more comfortable handlebar tape.

I like the heavier 44lb flywheel which is perfectly balanced. This provides a smooth pedal stroke and feel to the "ride."

The entire bike is very stable and has a very solid feel. There is no movement or rocking even with out of the saddle hard peddling.

The wheels on the front crossbar are helpful for moving the bike around for a short distance. They are as adequate as I've seen on other spin bikes costing more.

Assembly was very easy, though the instructions need to be updated. Parts had been changed, but were not reflected in the manual. Actually it went together easier and quicker than the way the instructions were written. But, it is easy to figure out on your own.

The water bottle cage and water bottle are a nice touch. I would have added a universal one, but this one attaches to the already threaded down tube.

The tension adjustment is smooth and uses dual pads against the flywheel. I have found there is plenty of adjustment range.

Finally, this bike gets good marks for overall appearance. In my opinion, it looks as good as any spin bike you would find in any gym yet it cost much less.

I used to spin at a local gym and loved doing so. I'm glad I know have the option to do so at home whenever time allows.

My buying experience with Amazon was as good as always. I ordered it on a Friday afternoon selecting Super Saver Shipping and it was delivered by the following Wednesday. This was also a holiday weekend (Memorial Day). I'm impressed!
